If you’re new to Hipmunk, running a flight search and going through your results may seem foreign. Why? Because we wanted our design to be completely different from the others! We decided to make our design completely visual so customers can quickly scan results without having to do a ton of thinking like figuring out how traveling will impact your day or determining how long layovers are (no subtracting time please!). But don’t fret – once you understand it, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it!
First, visit www.hipmunk.com/flights and run a search.
On your results page, you will see your flight results organized like a TV guide. Each colored block represents a separate flight – a “flight bar”. Gaps in between two rectangles indicate a layover. If you roll your cursor over each flight option, you will see more details on that particular option.
To the left of each flight, you will see the price associated with that particular option. Prices are round trip and per person. The price in bright green is the lowest priced flight we found for this search. That way you can easily find and recognize it!
Also like a TV guide, you’ll see a timeline of the day running along the top of your results. We call these our “Time Sliders”, which allow you to filter flights to the exact times of the day you prefer to travel. Just click the bubble at the end of the slider and drag to your desired travel times.
You can also filter and sort your results by:
- Agony score
- Flight price
- Duration of flight
- Takeoff time
- Landing time
- Preferred airlines filter
- Stops filter
At Hipmunk, you select your departure flight first. When you are ready to choose an option, click the “Select Leg” button or simply click on the flight bar you want.
After selecting your departure flight, the results page will shift and give you the opportunity to filter and select a return trip. At any point in time, you can change your departure option by navigating toward the top of the page and clicking the “Change Departure” button. Once you have found both of the options that fit your needs, click the orange “Book” button on the return trip page, or simply click the rectangle that represents the flight.
After picking all your flights, click the “Book” button to redirect to the sellers page to book. Or, click directly on the flight bar to view a “trip summary” before redirecting to book.
On your trip summary, you will see a list of all sellers offering tickets for your chosen itinerary. Sometimes there are many options and other times there are few. Remember we show you as many options as possible so be sure to choose the seller you are most comfortable booking with. This is who will take payment and manage your reservation.
Once you are ready to book the flight, simply click the orange “Book” button located to the right of the provider that you want to book with. You will then be redirected to that particular seller’s website to complete the booking process and pay. If you have any questions beyond this point regarding additional services, fees, or website issues, you will need to contact the provider directly.
